Why buy a treadmill?

There a many reasons why you might want to buy a treadmill. If you’re in the process of building a home gym then it’s a ‘must-have’, together with perhaps an exercise bike, a rowing machine, cross trainer and multi-gym. If you are after just one of two machines then you need to consider more carefully which ones you choose. All of of the above mentiomed will give a good workout, so your final choice may simply be to choose the option you prefer the most.

Why not just go outside and run outside?

There are several reasons why you might prefer to buy a treadmill rather then simply go out running:

  • Treadmills have programs which allow you to train at a consistent pace or achieve a particular goal. High end treadmills will monitor your heartrate and adjust the workload to your fitness level.
  • Good quality treadmill have cushioning in the deck which limits the impact on your joints and prevents injuries.
  • It doesn’t matter how hot or cold it is outside or if it’s raining/snowing
  • It’s safer than running on a roadside.
  • If you are short of time, you can position the treadmill in front of your TV and watch your favourite programs┬áwhile you exercise.
  • In the long run it’s much cheaper than a gym memberships – if you have more than one exercise machine your friends can join you and it’s even more fun!

The cons of buying a treadmill…

For many people the pros outway the cons, the only real things that might make you not want to buy a treadmill are the initial outlay and the fact that you may not have enough space.

Running is one of the most natural forms of exercise, and as long as you start gently and seek proffesional advice if you are very unfit or suffer any medical conditions, will reward you with great fitness and energy!
